When modeling and skinning in the Quake2 engine many beginner's are dismayed when they see exactly what Open GL rendering can do to the colors that they thought were appropriate. This is a common theme which has been seen in every degree in final Quake2 player models. A need for skin artist to be able to see their skins in game or see what certain colors will do is is obvious. To give you another option on testing certain colors and combinations, Wrath has generated the Testbox model. It's a plain box that has the Q2 palette on it. Install this just like a normal model and give it a spin in the game or in something like Skinview to see what will happen.
From the readme file:
What this model is.
- Yeah, I know...it's a box. It's not meant for playing with, it's meant as a tool for skinners. I made this model to display the every color in the Q2 color palette in game so I could see how the colors translate.
Yes, I know that I can make a box with 12 faces...but the Q2 engine does strange warping things with the map unless you have a significant number of mapping vertices to anchor it down. That's the ONLY reason it so complex...it does not reflect my skill as a modeler.
- If I ever get the dimensions of the bounding box that Q2 uses, I'll resize this box to fit those dimensions...which will make it very useful.
