Box reset trick

The "box trick" is a method for removing extra data from a model: unwanted transforms, corrupted internal data, etc.

  1. Create a new box (any primitive will do).
  2. Convert it to a mesh.
  3. Attach the problematic mesh.
  4. Delete the boX part.

Modeling software usually has a function that does something similar, but often they don't perform as complete of a reset as the box method.

  • 3ds Max: Reset Xform
  • Blender: (?)

  • Maya: Remove History (?)
  • Modo: (?)
