Backface culling is the process of removing the unseen polygons that face away from the camera in a game.
These surfaces are usually not needed (except sometimes for shadow casting). Backface culling can dramatically speed up the rendering of a polygonal scene.
Also called Backface Removal or Back Culling, it is one of the methods of Hidden Surface Removal.
